Our Story
Constellation was born from a frustration shared across an entire engineering team.
The founders of ShiftinBits Inc. were building software with AI-assisted development tools and kept running into the same problems: missed symbols, inconsistent code understanding, and unreliable navigation of large codebases. These weren't edge cases. They were daily occurrences affecting every developer on the team.
One engineer's AI assistant would confidently report that a function had three callers. Another's would find five. A third would miss a dynamic import entirely. The same questions produced different answers depending on the session, the tool, and which files happened to be in context. Refactors shipped with broken references. Code reviews caught things that AI should have flagged. The team was spending more time verifying AI output than benefiting from it.
The root cause was clear: general-purpose LLMs understand code by reading it on demand, searching for text patterns rather than querying code structure. They have no persistent, shared model of the codebase. Every session starts from scratch, and every developer's AI builds a slightly different picture.
We built Constellation to solve this. A centralized code intelligence platform that gives every AI assistant on your team the same accurate, structural understanding of your codebase, maintained as a living knowledge graph that updates with every index. No more missed references. No more inconsistent answers. No more hoping your AI found everything.
What started as an internal tool to fix our own workflow became a platform designed to solve this problem for development teams everywhere.
